Fighting Diarrhea

For the first time in two years, since being a mom, I've finally experienced explosiveness form a diaper. It was almost like having a new born all over again except with a toddler who's much larger then a new born. I am not going to lie, i was a little worried and scared because diarrhea in kids is never really good. So from my learning experience i want to share the best two solutions for diarrhea! 

 

1 The BRAT Diet

Banana Rice Applesauce Toast

So why these foods? They all have the right amount of fiber (not too much) and potassium to help make the stool firm. The blander, the better. You want to focus on feeding less, but twice as much; meaning when you offer your little a meal chord half the portion but offer food a couple more times throughout the day. Just as us adults, when they have upset tummies they don't really eat how they usually do. Typically after 28-48 hours you should see a difference, as we did! 

 

2 Smoothie

If your toddler is anything like mine, theres times where she chooses to be a picky eater, and feeding her the BRAT diet throughout the day doesn't always work! So why not offer a great smoothie! My hubby is super into smoothie/shakes so he has a really great blender, so i thought to myself hmmmm, let me make something fun!

What you will need:

  • 1 Banana
  • 1/2 cup of blueberries
  • 1 cup of oats
  • 1 cup of almond milk

I offered this to my daughter with her meals, this actually got her to eat her food lol! I served her half a cup. I didn't try this the first day i thought of it on day 2, but once she started having this with her meals it really really made a difference! Now that she's all better she is still asking me for "bothies"

Oh and for the apple sauce i used both the tree top singles and as well as the Beech Nut baby applesauce food!
